Bookstore Bio Series: University of Toronto Bookstore, Toronto Ontario

  1. Tell us about yourself! What is your store name, where are you located, how long have you been in business etc.

There has been a bookstore serving students on the University of Toronto campus for 121 years. The U of T Bookstore has been in our current location since 1985. A more complete history of our store, from our beginnings in a university library basement to our current space in the former Reference Library, is available on our website.

  1. What is something interesting people should know about your store?

Our current location is in a heritage building designed as a Carnegie reference library. The books in our bookstore are found in the Great Hall, the reading and reference room for the original library. This beautiful room has enormous windows and a fantastic ceiling. It is a great space to browse for books.

  1. What is your favourite part about owning/running an independent bookstore?

We love books and love helping our customers find a great book. We take pride in our eclectic selection of books that reflect the varied interests of the community we serve.

  1. What is the last book you read? What is your favourite book and why?

One book that a few U of T Bookstore staff have read recently is Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff.

Favourite books are always hard to choose. Our store is filled with old and new favourites from Dr. Seuss to Yuval Noah Harari’s Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow. Come in and find your new favourite!
